Subject: [DailyDialogue #316] Saying Good-bye

"If my hands are fully occupied in holding on to something, I can neither give nor receive." - Dorothee Solle

We often resist letting go of situations that do not nurture us because we are afraid to let go of our dreams. We tend to think something is wrong with us because our lives did not work out the way we had hoped. When we allow ourselves to grieve the loss, we are free to allow new dreams to materialize.

Good-bye is derived from the phrase “God be with you.” When we say farewell, we are wishing the best for the other and there is something good in the parting.

I am in the process of saying good-bye to the place where I have worked for almost five years. I recall the good times, the challenging times and the goals that were never reached. I recognize the importance of dealing with these feelings so that I can breathe life into my new private practice.

Experiment: Choose a person, place or thing with whom you would like to say good-bye. Use the phrase, "I say good-bye to... Finish the incomplete sentence with 1) the things that are difficult to let go of 2) the things that you are happy to release and 3) the dreams for what might have been.

Affirmation: By getting in touch with my anger and sadness, I come to a place of acceptance and make way for a future free from the past.
