Subject: [DailyDialogue #235] Whitewater Rafting

"Make your vocation your vacation."
- paraphrased from Joyce and Barry Vissell
Marty and I just returned from a 3 day vacation, whitewater rafting. We devoted time to a pleasurable activity we both enjoy. It was incredibly restful and relaxing.

The root of vacation is the Latin word vacatio meaning freedom from occupation or vacare to be empty and at leisure. I believe that no matter how divinely inspired our occupation is, it is important to take time to empty ourselves of responsibilities.

When Marty and I vacated our minds of duties that related to our work, we began to dialogue about the beauty of the osprey, the words to old 60's songs and the games we most enjoy. Our goals were limited to having a good time and safely navigating the challenging waters. As I returned to facilitating a training on listening skills, I felt my passion for teaching renewed and revivified.

Experiment: Dialogue about a future vacation. How will it assist you in vacating your responsibilities?

Affirmation: I am revitalized by taking time to free myself from regular duties.
