Subject: [DailyDialogue #230] Deep Learning
"Today there is a groundswell of interest in learning organizations. But, in times of 'respect' it becomes more important than ever to think and act strategically. Otherwise, all the talk about 'learning organizations' will amount to little more than a management fad."
Peter Senge, The Fifth Discipline Handbook Real change comes develops with learning that affects more than behaviors. Deep learning also affects attitudes and beliefs, plus awarenesses and sensibilities, as well as skills and behaviors.
At first, the practice of dialogue with my partner is largely a matter of discipline and practice. It feels un-natural, it takes extra time and I may experience frustration and impatience. But, gradually my listening and validating skills improve and with the practice, new awareness develops. Whole new levels of effective joint decisionmaking and relief from emotional stuckness become available. My sensitivity to the absence of full participation in communication increases and my sensibilities may lead me to insist upon it.
Choosing to continue with dialogue when it feels unnatural is a strategic choice that leads to deep learning.
Experiment: Dialogue about the new awareness that is unfolding for you as a by-product of experimenting with different modes of communication.
Affirmation: New awarenesses and sensibilities are bringing us to new vistas in human relating.
