Subject: [DailyDialogue #210] Joy
"Happiness and joy are not one in the same. Happiness is the elation
that accompanies good fortune, while joy is the evidence of God's
presence in the human experience. Joy is not a destination; it is a
way of traveling." - Rev. Mary Manin Morrissey
Our sense of prosperity or success does not happen by chance or luck. Someone I know won the lottery and she made it clear that winning the lottery did not bring her joy. She described an inner joy that she could choose to tap into no matter what was happening in her life.
There are many ways I assist myself in accessing that inner joy or in blocking the birth of my mirth. Recently I invited Marty to the Living Enrichment Center Wednesday night service with comedian Swami Beyondanonda. At the last minute, I called to tell him I didn't think I could attend because I had too much work to do. He convinced me that I could do it all.
I knew that I had en-joyed the Swami in the past and that listening to him helped lighten my travel along the path. I let go of my need to be perfect with my work and did what I knew was best for my well-being. His humor, which carries a spiritual message, helped me remember the truth of who I am inside, a joyful child. I let my little inner child out to play and the result was ecstatic joy.
Experiment: Create an experience in which you allow your inner joy to flow. Listen to a comedian, sing a children's song, watch a cartoon, go to the beach... Share your joy with your best friend.
Affirmation: I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart.
