Subject: [DailyDialogue #188] God

"There are then two parallel dialogues, two personal contacts-one with another person, the other with God. These two dialogues are closely interconnected, like the two great commandments, love towards God and love towards our neighbor. ...Thus people are in fact even without being exactly aware of it, in dialogue with God."
- Paul Tournier

Paul Tournier is a physician who has incorporated Martin Buber's philosophy into his own psychology. What does he mean by dialoguing with God? I believe it is synonymous with dialoguing with our whole being, communicating to another's whole being.

The word whole comes from the German word heil which means healthy. Flowers communicate to me with their whole being, the petals, the stamen and the leaves create the total experience of beauty. A plant that doesn't get enough water or sun does not look healthy or whole. I can still see the potential in that plant and nurture its growth.

Likewise, in relating to others I can see the face of God, the whole being that is their fullest potential. When I can see the beauty within myself, I can believe it is present in others.

Experiment: Relate to each person you see today by reflecting your inner beauty and knowing the truth about their inner beauty.

Affirmation: I see God in you and in me.
