Subject: [DailyDialogue #138] Networking

"You were born into a sea of life existing in harmony with all others. You usually do things best when you do them with others, in cooperation, mutual trust, joy, and satisfaction." -- Robert Conklin

A man named Norm called me from Arizona today to ask about my experience of starting a small business. Norm lost his job yesterday and he was calling to expand his network. I enjoyed our conversation because it gave me a break from my work and stimulated my curiosity about Norm and his life.

I think that Norm is using wisdom by talking to several people about what they do and how they do it. He can evaluate his response to what people are saying and notice what he says about himself. This networking approach to divining a career path is recommended by the best career counselors.

As a youth, I heard many negative messages about networking and sometimes it's hard for me to get started.

Experiment: Think of someone you are curious about and setup an informative interview with them. Ask them questions for 15 minutes about that which fascinates.

Affirmation: Good networking, like good conversation, brings us enjoyment. The Daily Dialogue is published each day of 1998 by e-mail.
