"Solitude: a good place to visit, but a poor place to stay."
- Josh Billings (Henry Wheeler Shaw)
Withdrawing from the world and spending time in quiet meditation can help restore the soul. However, many times we enter this place of isolation to escape conflict. Withdrawal tears apart our relationships. Sharing our feelings strengthens our connection.

There are many ways that we can act with an intention to connect. We can share our feelings honestly. We can appreciate our partner. We can ask how we can support our mate. We can validate our companion's point of view even though it is different from ours.

The love letter process developed by John Gray and Barbara DeAngelis is a great way to share feelings and appreciations. It results in a deep level of connections.

Experiment: Use the following love letter process with your partner verbally competing the following sentences. the receiver will mirror each sentence.
I feel angry...
I feel sad...
I feel afraid...
I feel ashamed...
(Receiver summarize and validate feelings)
I understand...
I forgive...
I appreciate...
I love...

Affirmation: I am connecting with my partner by listening, sharing my feelings and appreciating them.
