Subject: [DailyDialogue #96] Transformation

"When someone beats a rug with a stick, he is not beating the rug--his aim is to get rid of the dust." - Rumi
We often feel we are being punished if things don't go the way we would like. We blame others for having caused our misery. What if what feels like a strike against us is part of our refinement?

Rumi speaks to this transformation when he says, "As the hard shell of the walnut has to be broken in order to free the sweet kernel which in turn must be crushed to release the fragrant oil which is the innermost heart of the nut, so the human has to be stripped of the hard shell of his lower or conditioned qualities in order to develop the deeper and nobler ones."

What if what feels like a blow, is a part of the evolution of our consciousness, a cleaning out of the dusty parts of ourselves? We are called to go through winter to experience spring. The leaves fall to make way for new life. A flower grows by bursting its pod. The loss and frustration we experience in life provides an emptiness that can be filled by opening our heart to love.

Grains are crushed to make bread. The bread does not return to its pervious lesser state. As we go through our brokenness, we are resurrected to a higher plane.

Experiment: Dialogue with your partner about an area of your life were you feel despair. Instead of complaining, talk about how this experience is an opportunity for new birth, a resurrection.

Affirmation: I welcome each experience as a golden opportunity to lead me forward.
