Subject: [DailyDialogue #90] Attitude
"Struggle is not an act; it is an attitude. If we believe that we must fight to get what we want, we will toil over everything we do. If we recognize, however, that the universe works more efficiently for us when we approach it with ease, life will serve us in miraculous ways." - Alan Cohen
When we fight with our difficulties we waste energy. When we focus on trying to analyze why something happened or why we deserved such punishment, we become more angry, depressed and afraid. If we ask, "What can I learn from this?" or 'What is my next step?", we take a proactive posture.
Many of us were brought up to believe that bad things happen to us because we are bad people. This way of thinking keeps us stuck in a negative attitude about ourselves. If instead we adopt the belief that whatever life hands us, we can learn from it, we experience more joy.
Rather than arguing which belief is right, I'd rather be happy. I choose to believe that I can be grateful for all of life's lessons.
Experiment: Dialogue with your partner about your gratitude for things that have felt painful in your past.
Affirmation: I give thanks for all the lessons I have learned.
