"Plodding wins the race" - Aesop, The Hare and the Tortoise
Lent is typically a time of fasting. Maybe it would be better to practice slowing. Are we competing in a contest, struggling to come in first or steadily moving onward, enjoying each part of the movement?
Lent comes from the word lente meaning to move slowly. The hare moves at the speed of 35 mph while the tortoise pokes along at .17 mph. By persevering and remaining in slow constant pursuit of its goal, the tortoise beat the odds.
During this Lenten season of penitence, I confess my tendency to rush full speed in the fast lane, burning out before the finish line. I choose to rise out of the ashes of the past and like the Phoenix, be reborn into an awakened consciousness by taking my time.
Experiment - Set aside slow time with your partner today. Spontaneously allow yourselves to take one step at a time, refusing to be hurried.
Affirmation - I have all the time I need to do what is most important.
