Subject: [DailyDialogue #49] True Colors

"I see your true colors shining through.
I see your true colors and that’s why I love you.
So don’t be afraid to let them show..."

BillSteinberg and Tom Kelly, "True Colors"

When I'm at my best, I make it safe for you to be yourself. Listening well is such an important source of safety. Sometimes I may think that I need to be a great advisor, counselor, teacher, or traffic cop. Fortunately, you remind me when I get confused about that.

The dialogue process helps me toward my goal of being a great receiver. Here's some things I've been attempting to add to the basic dialogue skills of mirroring and acknowledgement. When we're in the same place, and not occupied with driving, I look at at you while you're speaking. If you're in another state, I might look at your picture. I may occasionally say something like "Tell me more." or "Would you say more about that?" I also may occasionally reach out and give you a respectful touch.

Experiment: Put down the paper or the book, turn off the TV and be together without media distractions for a half-hour today.

Affirmation: We are making it safe to show our true colors to each other. The Daily Dialogue is published each day of 1998 by e-mail. Copyright 1998, Eddy Brame and Marty Crouch, All rights reserved.
