Subject: [DailyDialogue #18]Leisure Time
"He enjoys true leisure who has time to improve his soul’s estate."
- Henry David Thoreau
Relationships deepen our lives and help fulfill the needs of our soul. When we give ourselves permission to free ourselves from work tasks and invest in the quality of our relationships, we touch the aliveness of our divine essence. Thomas Moore points out in "Care of the Soul" that the soul thrives under conditions of intimacy.
How many of us as we transition from this lifetime will be saying, "I wish I had spent more time with my computer"? Engaging in heartfelt conversation cultivates our soul's estate. At the same time, it is important that we spend some time focusing on our physical estate and taking action towards building our material assets.
It is wise to balance the polarities of work and relaxation, spiritual and material, playful and serious, carefree and responsible, doing and being. Each moment as we consciously decide what is most important, we create an intentional relationship.
Experiment - Dialogue with your partner about your thoughts and feelings regarding the amount of leisure time you have been spending together. Plan and carry out an activity today that will improve your soul's estate.
Affirmation - I have all the time, energy and money I need to do what is most important.
