Subject: [DailyDialogue #345] Extended Familly
"People try so many things to find fulfillment, even spiritual fulfillment; they run around exhausting themselves. The Buddha's teaching is that everything is right where you are, right now: your suffering, and the end to your suffering. There's no reason to go anywhere. What you need to do is look into your mind, which is itself a space, in fact an infinite space. It is colored by the energy; that is coursing through it in the moment…"
Larry Rosenburg, Breath by Breath
At best, family visits are bittersweet experiences. Eddy and I are spending the holidays with her extended family near Kansas City, Missouri. Eddy's sister, Joan, celebrated a 50th birthday with childhood girl friends and we enjoyed a traditional Christmas.
Possibly the best times on our vacation have been the daily walks to the lake. The Canada Geese are here and we love to watch their takeoffs, landings, and hear their incessant honking to each other.
But the best part of the walk is the opportunity to share in long talks with our walking partners. The walk time is meditative too, bringing us back to our senses: cold air, sounds of birds, smell of wood smoke, sights of wildlife and the countryside.
Experiment: Talk a long walk in a quite place with your partner and come to your senses.
Affirmation: May our holidays provide rest and recreation.
