Subject: [DailyDialogue #323] Fairy Stories

"Our story is not about heroism, but about failure and repair; it is not so much about bravado as about learning courtesy; it is less about doing and more about listening; it is not as much about ascents as about descents. It is about the forging of a new relationship within both men and women."

-- Robert Bly and Marion Woodman, The Maiden King Timeless myths teach about the inward journey that we make if we are to find ourselves. For many, the journey involves a discovery and expression of denied masculine or feminine capacities.

The Maiden King is a myth from Russian tradition. In the story, the young hero is visited by a stunning beauty, a heroine who declares her love for him and vows to return. When she does return, our hero has been lulled to sleep by his jealous tutor and stepmother. He misses his opportunity, not once, but three times.

The beginning of this story illustrates the tragic effects of trance. Opportunity comes to us and we miss her because we have been lulled to sleep. Many influences are potentially hynotic: television, sports, shopping, repetitive and competitive jobs, hours behind the wheel of a vehicle, and so forth.

Experiment: Allow for the possibility that your partner can see some opportunities that you may be missing. Dialogue about potential opportunities for your partnership.

Affirmation: We assist each other in awakening the possibilities for our growth and development. The Daily Dialogue is published each day of 1998 by e-mail. Copyright 1998, Eddy Brame and Marty Crouch, All rights reserved.
