Subject: [DailyDialogue #267] Unattached from the Outcome
"Another characteristic of self-actualized people is that they are unattached to the outcome."
- Wayne Dyer, from Dr. Abraham Maslow
Another of the prospective tenants who came to see our rental unit looked to be the ideal tenant. Middle aged, good job, stable and dependable. She offered a prepared renter's resume with excellent references and credit history.
Eddy and I agreed that it was important to let prospective tenants know about our tentative plans to move and sell this duplex home in the next year. We seek to drastically reduce the amount of driving in Eddy's routine. I was quite tempted to remain quiet to this woman about our plans. After all, our plans aren't concrete yet, so why say anything.
When the propective tenant said she loved our apartment and that she imagined she would stay for several years, I winced and told her of our plans. She immediately decided the apartment was not for her and was gone.
Experiment: Dialogue with your partner a time when you revealed your truth, even when it appeared that you might lose something when you did so.
Affirmation: The universe works in mysterious ways and we are noticing how well things are constantly working out as we live in accord with our values.
