Subject: [DailyDialogue #225] Blessings
"Give me the eyes to see the sun that shines behind the rain. Teach my heart to find the gift that hides behind the pain. Help me to receive the blessing in each moment of my life." - John Astin
These words floated into my ears as I sat at the dentist's chair attempting to mask the sound of the drill today. I find that when I listen to uplifting music, it raises my spirits. How did this particular line seem to jump out of the various strains of music that played over and over as I sat confined for two hours receiving a new cap for my broken tooth?
I was blessed by two loving friends who helped me deal with my anxiety. My dear friend Ruth who is a dental hygienist recommended the Walkman and Marty just happened to have the perfect system. As I sat there wondering what might come next, I felt so loved by their thoughtfulness.
I let go of my sense of victimhood and I believed that I was taking control of my situation. I asked for a security blanket for my legs as I pondered what gift might lie behind the pain. When the process was apparently over, I was pleased to hear a pronouncement that all went well. Later today, I searched for the blessing in the moment when chewing on a turkey sandwich I swallowed a part of my new temporary cap.
Experiment: Dialogue about what you do to handle anxiety and pain.
Affirmation: "I am in the sanctuary of my soul, far beyond the roaring of the storm." - John Astin
